Hi guys!

As I mentioned in yesterday’s TTT post, I finished Charles’ pig earflap beanie.  And, you know, though I found Charles’ choice of complementary colours questionnable at best, they all work remarkably well together.  Perhaps he’ll be a fashion designer later on?  Haha!

I’ve also progressed a bit on the scarf I was working on, though I took a break from it after Amélie found both the scarf and my scissors and “helpfully” cut my working yarn.  On the bright side, she didn’t cut into the actual scarf!  I really like the color progression and enjoy the big blocks of colours.  I’m hoping to finish it this week.

I also started working on another little octopus a while back.  The initial hospital that I contacted hasn’t gotten back to me, but I’ve found another one who might be interested.

I played around with this one and added an eye patch to turn it into a pirate.  I only have 5 tentacles left to crochet before I can stuff it and close it up.  I also decided to do 3 sc instead of 2 sc in each chain link of the tentacles.  It makes for a bit wider tentacles but they are also tighter.  I’m eager to finish it to compare with my other one and decide what I like best.

  1. We had an absolutely beautiful last couple of days.  Yesterday was warm enough to go out without a coat.  Elliot also got to explore the balcony for the first time.

And my sister-in-law wonders why I nickname this one “chubby face”.  Just look at those cheeks!
  2. Unfortunately, my shins haven’t gotten any better.  Yesterday, my husband and I had to stop our squash game after half an hour because it felt like if I tried to run one more time, my tibia would snap.  I’m so frustrated!  I sent an email to my doctor’s office this morning and I’m planning on calling my osteopath for an appointment to see if she can do something to help while I wait for my doctor to be able to see me.
  3. I finished the beanie that I was working on for Charles last week.  I’ll be posting a picture of it in tomorrow’s WIP post.
  4. Elliot has gotten really good at standing up.  He’s often letting go of one hand, he’s been using various toys and boxes as walkers and he has started cruising by holding onto the couch.
  5. I super excited to tell you that I will be sharing a guest post with you on Thursday!
  6. Income tax season is almost over.  I’ll finally stop being a temporary single mom soon!
  7. We went to see some friends over the weekend and I finally got to meet my friend’s 6 week old!  Oh gosh, baby fever came washing right over me again!
  8. This week, we’ve got slow-cooker baby back ribs, club sandwiches and homemade falafel on the menu.  Deeeeee-licious!
  9. Today’s going to be a pretty difficult day.  Charles and Amélie decided to keep themselves awake yesterday evening so they are super tired today.
  10. After keeping it at bay for a few weeks, the cold that everyone’s gotten in the house except me has finally caught up with me.  *Sigh* Oh well, with water, rest and sinus rinse, it shouldn’t be too bad overall.

Wednesday WIP: April 4th 2017

wednesday-wip

Hi guys!

I’m so happy to be doing a new WIP Wednesday!  Woot woot!

I finally finished my sister-in-law’s poncho over the weekend.  I don’t know exactly why it took me so long to finish, I mean, the pattern works up very quickly.  I guess I just got caught up in a whole lot of other things (I have waaaay to many projects in my head!).

Wanna take a look?  Of course you do!

I’m really pleased with the way it turned out!  I ended up needing six skeins of yarn (I used Vanna’s choice), two for each colour.  Honestly, I had a bit of a hard time actually giving it away once I tried it on – so comfy!

Now, I’m working on two new projects.  You already know that I’m working on a pig beanie for Charles.  He’s even picked out colours for the insides of the ears (Yoda green) and snout (sunglass-worthy orange).

Though these are, quite obviously, not the colours I would have chosen, but I absolutely love the fact that his mind isn’t blocked by conventions.

My other project, despite the fact that the weather is finally warming up, is a scarf.  I bought a Caron Cake and had been wondering what to do with it.  Then, I saw this woven tartan pattern on Tami’s blog (Tanglewood Knots) and it gave me an idea.  I decided to do my filet mesh with the cake and am planning on doing my chains in grey.  What do you think?

Hello!

Now that I seem to be back in a crochet mood, I thought I’d share some of my works in progress (WIPs) with you all.

So the last time I posted a picture of a WIP, it was of a half-done C2C blanket.  I was making it for a friend who’s expecting her second child any day now!!!  So exciting!  I did manage to finish the blanket and gave it to her the last time she came over.  I was super happy with the whole experience and with the end result.  What do you think?

After completing my husband’s new beanie yesterday, I’ve begun working on a scarf for my daughter.  I wanted to make it using the crocodile stitch so I had to find a Youtube tutorial to learn how.  It was a bit tricky at first, but now I’ve got the hang of it.

I’m making it with Red Heart Gumdrop in grape and using a J sized hook to get a nice soft and flexible scarf.  I’m 3/4 of the way through my first skein of two and I’ve only got about 30cm done.  I’ll probably have to go out and buy another skein or two.  The crocodile stitch takes a LOT of yarn to make (10 DC stitches per scale), but it’s worth it.  I really love how frilly and fancy it looks.  I’m still undecided as to whether I should make it an infinity scarf or just a regular one, but I still have time to figure that part out.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed to be able to finish it by next Wednesday so that I can share a picture of the finished product with you guys!

    1. Well, it’s February 14th today.  Happy Valentines Day!
    2. Charles and Amélie got all prettied up this morning for daycare.  We even had time to play around with some Snapchat filters before putting on our coats and heading out the door.
    3. Yesterday, I finally got around to crocheting the new beanie I’ve been promising my husband for months.  I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out! fullsizerender-16
    4. Elliot’s top right central incisor finally cut, and his left one is on the verge of cutting.  He discovered his little tooth yesterday and was having fun grinding his teeth together.
    5. Today’s a run day, yay!  Unfortunately, the track I usually run on is closed all week due to an event being held.  This means that I’ll be doing today’s run (and my next two) on a treadmill.  I’m not super thrilled because running in place facing a window overlooking a parking lot doesn’t sound too appealing, but I’ll give it a try!
    6. I’ve currently working on leaning the crocodile stitch for my next crochet project.  I’ll give you guys a sneak peek of what I’m working on tomorrow.
    7. For the second morning in a row, I’ve found Elliot turned over on his tummy.  And for the second morning in a row, he wasn’t overly-excited about it.  Hahaha!
    8. Amélie and Charles spent the weekend over at my parents’ house.  When I asked my daughter what she did here’s what she said:
        • She watched a movie with a mean man wearing a dress in a cage; (my parents have no idea which movie she’s referring to)
        • She played outside and saw a snake pooping; (actually, the snake was shedding its skin in an indoor terrarium – though she actually did play outside as well)
        • She ate a sandwich with different little things inside for breakfast. (she had cereal for breakfast)

Gotta love how a two year old views the world LOL!

    9. Yesterday I washed the kids’ clothing.  I’ll probably have to do another load tomorrow.  Oh joy…
    10. The Final Fantasy concert by Distant Worlds last Saturday was amazing.  My husband and I also discovered a really delicious Japanese tapas bar called Kinoya Izakaya.  If you’re ever in Montreal, I strongly recommend!

Stellar: Earflap Beanie

This is the new project I just finished.  Isn’t it cute?  I used the standard earflap beanie pattern that can be found here, on the Repeat Crafter Me blog.  This is my go to spot for the hat patterns because they work up quickly, the seams come together nicely and the sizing is always spot on.

Then I crocheted a star using the pattern here.  The star worked up super easily (I tried a few patterns and this one was definitely the winner).  I didn’t use the fabric stiffener, but I did block the piece overnight to give it a more pointy look as it looked like a flower once finished.

I finished off by using surface slip stitches to create the tail of the shooting star.  Here  is the tutorial I used when first using the technique a few months ago.

The yarn I used for the hat is Lion Brand Wool-Ease in Navy and Gold for the star and accent colour.

Now it’s time for me to start a poncho for my son.  Cheers!

What projects do you have going on right now?
