I Support You

There’s a movement going online in the realm of parenting.

The “I support you” campaign was launched in an effort to stop the “mommy wars” with regards to the breastmilk -vs- formula debate.

The way I see it, motherhood is hard enough without having to feel and be judged by others.  We actually do a good job of judging ourselves without outside help.

The parent section of the Huffington post has launched a slideshow with photos containing the “I support you” message.  You can read the article here and submit a photo to the slideshow by simply clicking “add a slide” at the end of the article, tweeting a picture to @HuffPostParents including the #isupportyou hashtag or shooting an email to formulafeeders@gmail.com.

I decided to submit my own message yesterday via twitter.

I support you

Anyone else on for the ride?

  1. I love this new campaign. I just dont understand what fuels these mommy wars! On facebook alone, there are some pages that are just vile! The Alpha Parent, for example.

    1. Don’t have facebook, but I’ve seen the mommy wars all over the web. I also do not understand what fuels them. It would be so much easier if we were supportive of one another. Thanks for stopping by!

  3. While both my twins started out nursing, around 5 months old one of them decided she liked bottles and formula better (they were getting some formula if I had to leave them for an hour to run errands etc.). So now one drinks formula and one is breastfed, so I am okay with both.

I do wish she would nurse because its cheaper and I like the bonding, but she is happy and I will admit it is convenient with 3 under 3 🙂 Interesting to note that the breastfed twin weighs over 6lbs more than the formula fed twin so I wonder how much of that is related to their diet.

    1. Wow, a 6 pound difference! It’s good to follow your baby’s lead for feeding. I can understand you missing the bonding. I was shocked when I found out the price of formula – especially the kind that was suggested to us due to my son’s allergies! I’m not sure when we’ll be stopping yet.
      Thanks for stopping by!

  5. The majority of us humans get wrapped up in our own opinions, and criticisms of others, in all aspects of life; parenting is something that we take the most seriously, though. This movement — and you — are absolutely right… despite my own beliefs, I really hope we can learn to unite rather than divide, and support one another! Thanks for the post, and great contribution!

    1. Thank you. And you are right, we all need to know where we stand with regards to the many aspects of parenting. But it’s important to understand that we are all individuals and that personal beliefs, by definition, change from one individual to another (and even from one child to another within a single family!). Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment.
